Problem connecting to some programs on HBO NOW

I have an Apple TV 2-3rd gen. I have had minor issues in the past several years but recently have subscribed to HBO NOW and the device will stream some of the programs fine but will not connect to other programs. I get a spinning icon as it try to connect and notice the light on the Apple TV go out and blink a few times and come on again. What is happening here? Could it be heat build up is causing it to shut down or is the older Apple TV not compatible or reliable with a new Airport Extream router?

It's nothing to do with the Extreme router and if it's only with HBO Now content then I suspect the problem is with HBO, have you tried contacting them.

No, but I will try streaming from another app and see if I can replicate the issue. If not I will try and reinstall the HBO NOW app. I never had the issue with HBO GO. Thanks.

You can't reinstall apps on the Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3

Hi. Please check that you are not using a screensaver that takes a lot of storage. If you are, try switching to one of the built-in ones.
